Team Awesome (an affiliated group with BlackOut Gaming) are hosting a pyro tennis competition on Sunday the 9th of June! There are teams of three competing against one another for delicious pyro prizes, and you have the chance to get in on it! Pyro Tennis for those of you that don’t know, is where a group of pyros air blast missiles back and forth at one another until somebody loses. If you’re interested, be sure to register your team of three participants on their website.
We’re pleased to announce that we’ve heard your pleas for certain features and have responded to them by implementing some new plugins.
From now on, all servers will have a ping checker and clan-tag checker, so wave good bye to that jittering scout and that untraceable pyro, and say hello to a cleaner gaming experience on BlackOut servers. The limit for the ping kicker is set at 250, so the threshold is high enough that nobody playing in Europe with sufficient connection should suffer wrongly.
We’ve also heard several player’s pleas about some of the VIP functions on Orange, and have now deactivated some of the less favourable features such as the respawning health drop function. You will however, still benefit from VIP with slot reservations; VIP will continue to function as normal across all other servers.
We’ve got some hefty news which we believe will not only make you smile, but will attract a bunch of new players to our community. First off, we’re going to perform the following changes to the servers and what we run:
Changes to be done to TF2 servers:
- Swap #12 Surf out for Dodgeball
- Swap #9 Rotation out for PropHunt
Why are we doing this you might ask? Well, we’ve seen that having two Surf-servers is not worth the effort, we’ve got to keep track of everything on two servers, we’ve got to add new maps to two servers and most of all, we’ve got to make sure nobody spawncamps on two servers, so we’re swapping it out to something a bit more fun. We also have #9 Rotation which as stated will be swapped to PropHunt, the reason for this is that the server is not popular, and the people who requested it is no longer active in TF2.
All these changes will be performed AFTER the SteamPipe update which hits sometime tonight/evening (30.04.2013).
We’ve also added some more stuff to our forums, for instance we’ve added a “Thanks” button so you can thank your fellow users for posting something fun, or just “useful” as the plugin says – we’ve also disabled the Facebook login and we now enforce that you enter your email when you register with Steam, as we need a way to send you your password if you were to lose it or unlink your account.
Other changes include minor fixes around the site, including a fancy subdomain for BlackOut TV (http://tv.blackoutgaming.org)
Somewhere in the evening Tuesday the 30th of April, Valve will release or enforce a mandatory change from using the old content delivery system to the new one called SteamPipe. This will give us much faster loading times, more control over the files in the filesystem and hopefully less issues when adding models and so on.
What will this mean for me, you might ask? Well, the change we will be doing on our TF2 servers shouldn’t affect you if you have opted in for the SteamPipe beta for the TF2-client, however if you haven’t opted in for it, and you haven’t converted, it will mean that you a) will not be able to see the servers in the server browser, or b) whenever you try and connect to one of the servers it will drop you for having an old client.
When will we perform the change? We will perform the change whenever we see fit in the evening of Tuesday 30th of April, during this time there will be a few hours (or less) with downtime on the TF2 servers only, other servers for other games should not be affected by this maintenance.
The effects of this change server-side will be invisible to you as a player, however there might be a few bugs after the conversion, aka some plugins not loading, models not showing and so on – so be prepared for a few server restarts and whatnot while we work out the bugs.
We don’t have any further details on the time the update, all we know is that it will most likely be tomorrow evening.
That’s right folks, our precious MGE server is now running the latest 2.0 release! This includes a bunch of new features and a lot of bug fixes.
-!swap command in ultiduo that allows you to ask your teammate to swap classes with you (This only works when the arena is active/the round has started/4 people are added up)
-!top5 is now a navigable ELO ranking menu that lets you view all players in the database
-Added command to allow players to drop the intel like normal. (Thanks to thesupremecommander for this)
-Flag in bball is now actually a flag instead of an ammopack
